Eureka Bridge

This week they are closing old highway 30 for repair of the Eureka Bridge. It is a landmark on the old Lincoln Highway that is through our town. There have been years of controversy on what should be done with the bridge. "Preserve it and build a new bridge in a near location?" That didn't work as the near landowners wouldn't let that pass. Now it has become a safety matter. It is a very traveled road. They are going to try to preserve it, but make it safe for today's vehicles. We'll have to wait and see how it all turns out. Meanwhile, this is what it looks like now! Lives have been lost on the curves coming into the bridge. The guard rails are relatively new.
