Football @ Sheldon

_________ Wednesday night the first playoff game was at Sheldon. Rams lost to a larger team. 14-42 It was a cold and windy night, with enough precipitation in the air, that made picture taking even worse than the usual under the lights pictures. We were glad Jeff wore his white socks. It made him much easier to spot. He had a few carries and a couple good kickoff returns, but they didn't even kick to the back guys until they had enough touchdowns the games outcome was pretty well set. Their reputation had preceded them! All in all, it was a good year. Now in a little over a week swimming practice starts.

6th Grade Rams vs Boone

________________It was a respectable loss Sunday to Boone, 6-12. They played in Valley Stadium in West Des Moines. They have a lot of experience to start their 7th grade season next year. Calvin was bummed that they didn't win, but he is so competitive he thinks they should will them all! It was a good game.

Rams Football vs OA-BCIG

Last Friday night was the last home football game of the season. It was also Senior Night. All the seniors were introduced with their parents before the game. It was a heartbreaker loss. 6-12 With the opponents getting a touchdown with only a few minutes to go, to take the lead. Jeff had a few good carries and tackles, but was unable to get out in the open, where they wouldn't be able to catch him. As true with many of the team we played this year, we were out sized. The Rams finished 4th in their division so qualified for the playoffs. They will play Wed. night against Sheldon, a team that finished first in their division, on their home field. The last picture is the senior walk down the field which has been done on the last home game of their high school careers, the past few years.

Football Winding Down

The 6th grade Rams played in Dallas Center on Sunday. It was a loss, but they had lots of good plays. Just not a string of good plays to finish out some of their drives. The other team had a boy that made all of their touchdowns and a good percentage of their tackles. He was fast. They didn't know yet when they would play next. This was their last game, but there will be a tournament. But if it is next Saturday, Calvin and a couple others have Iowa tickets and won't be there. These kids need to know before a week ahead.

Rams Lose to Kuemper

Jeff was captain again. That is getting routine. But they lost. Jeff didn't carry the ball as much as usual. He did have the only touchdown for us. It's like the coach is giving others a chance to carry. The next game will be tough too, and they have to win to get into the playoffs. The last game Jeff only carried 4 times, but had an early touchdown.

Little Rams Win

Sunday afternoon Calvin's team won 23-0. After half time they got things going. They should feel better now after a win. _______One of Calvin's buddies was going to catch the Gaterade when Teresa tossed it. But he stepped out of the way and it hit the ground to explode out the bottom. 11-12 years olds find this quite interesting! They will probably have to try it again!

Rams Win at Missouri Valley

43-0 was the final score. Jeff had the second touchdown in the first quarter. After the game was under control it was like they were trying to get different kids to make the next touchdown. A lot of different combinations played together. There would have been a couple more TDs that were called back for penalties. I think they all had fun. You almost felt sorry for the other team.

Welcome Center and Desoto Refuge

The picture of the planter is for Dan. It and some other primitive planters are at the Harrison county welcome center. The wood ducks and more are on display at the Desoto Refuge (Makes you lonesome for Herky) plus the duck box which we picked up plans for.

Anniversary

We had a great day. The sign was put up unknown to us. Teresa got the blame as it has a teachery look, but it wasn't her. Possibly a neighbor.... Another neighbor was caught adding the balloon to the mailbox. The flowers arrived from Matt and Liz and family and are gorgeous. Then we headed west to Missouri Valley early.

Visit from McCumbers

Ruth and Len stopped on their way to Texas. Yes, Iowa isn't on the direct route from N.C., but Ruth was ready for a caramal apple from Deal's Orchard! Plus a few other items she found in the gift shop. They arrived Tues. late afternoon and left early this a.m. She call after 6p.m. and they were in Texas and going to get to their destination of Len's parents tonight. We hosted a few relative for supper at our house last evening. Yesterday besides Deals, we got up to the farm and checked out the attic to make sure nothing we wanted had been missed. Ruth and Len went up to visit Mary Jane and Jerry (but he was in the field) while I came home to get stuff in the oven.

6th Grade Football

Calvin's team lost to a bigger team. This team had won the state tourney the past two years. Plus it wasn't a clean game. Lots and lots of late hits. Calvin had gotten a pass off when they hit him and he was taken out briefly, but by then the game was over. At least they called a 15 yard penalty on it. One of the few that got called. Actually they should have won by a larger margin, if they had been more concerned with their plays than their late hits, they would have done better.
