Halloween Flowers

It was suppertime at Long Term when I went out to visit today. Marg's flowers had arrived. Mom was in the diningroom and supper had just been served. She had her knitting along and wanted to show off how much of the baby blanket she had finished. She really wasn't mad, but didn't want to have her mouth open for the picture. I thought the flowers looked real nice!

Rams Win

Our Rams beat Charles City in Charles City 20-17 Wednesday night. On to State! They play Carroll in Carroll on Monday. We stayed overnight instead of traveling home after the game. We made a tour of the trip. Wednesday afternoon we toured the Hemken Collection in Williams. They have a big collection of rare, older cars and other items. Thursday on the way home, we stopped in Gladbrook to see the Matchstick Marvels. They have been constructed by Patrick Acton (formerly of Rippey) Both were great places to tour. See Iowa!

National Honor Society Induction

Jeffrey is now an official member of the National Honor Society. (He joins his sisters) The ceremony was this afternoon. Abbey lead the group in the pledge. There were only 17 today. Last years group numbered 25 and the year before there were more also. Girls outnumbered the boys 10-7. He should feel honored! It is a select group of students.

Sunshine!

For awhile this noon we had great sunshine. Good thing I got out when I did or would have missed it, as it is clouding over again. About 50 degrees though. That is nice! The Rams won over Perry last night. I listened to two radio stations and will watch the film when it is shown. The Rams will play Wednesday evening in Charles City. (first playoff game)

New PJ's

I got the new pajamas washed and shortened. There is another pair for me to get to work on too. I got them exchanged. They are the same pattern, Ruth, but red/pinkish. Medium is the size and big enough. She doesn't think she needs two pair as always wears the same pair. But I know she can't get them back the same day they go to laundry. ( She would try to remember to keep her mouth closed for the picture, as is conscious of her missing tooth, but that just doesn't work for her.) She has gotten started on the next baby blanket! But said she forgets she got it to work on.

More Football Photos

Facebook won't let me add photos. I get on everything fine, but when I hit add photos on any of the albums, it kicks off the whole site. I've tried a bunch of different ways and last time I could get them on one at a time on my wall, but not this time. So welcome to my blog! (Karen- High speed didn't help this problem! But they do go on this site much faster!)

Lil' Rams lose 12-13

Another heartbreaker...But what a great field on which to play. Artificial turf!! And nicer weather than the last few games. (but Calvin had Jeff's hand warmer that he just HAD to use.) Roland-Story 5th graders beat our Lil' Rams, but it was a good game all in all. Hilary got to watch Jeff Friday night and Calvin this afternoon, before heading back to school. We ran a few errands in Ames too.

More Fun Than Raking

Wednesday, since the wind refused to blow and send all our leaves to the neighbors, Jerry got the mower out and mulched leaves in the front yard. It chopped them up well and will save a lot of raking. The maples at Nora's haven't lost their leaves yet, so can't get too busy raking! _________________ Last night our Rams lost a hard fought game to Ballard in overtime. Hilary made it home from college for a visit and most of the game. Everyone was glad to see her. Calvin spotted her in the stands and grinned all the way, as he hurried up to give her a big hug. He has a football game tomorrow in Ames. Our warming trend should have improved the weather by then.

What a Difference a Day Makes

This morning instead of a skift of snow were had a yard with leaves falling like snow from our ash trees. By evening the majority of the leaves were on the ground. Shirley's maple across the street is gorgeous with all it's leaves in full color. ____________ Calvin's football team lost this afternoon to a good Carroll team. We had a colder than normal and cloudy day all day. But no rain, so the farmers are still going strong!

The First Snow Fall of the Winter

Rams Win!

A cool night, but the Rams won 48-8. Again the score for opponents (Saydel) came when the subs were in on defense. Jeff started defense and had a blocked punt, was in on breaking up a couple passes and tackles. He carried once (Second team offense briefly)and made 14 yards. Abbey and crew kept the cheers going. There weren't many in the cheering section, but the 9th grade boys and friends kept it going!

Deal's Orchard

Ruth is visiting. That means it is time for a caramel apple from Deals. Mom joined us this morning when we went out. For some reason when Ruth gets caramel apples they never make it back to NC! She is heading for Colorado in the a.m. and will return Monday, weather and etc permitting.

Happy Birthday, Joan!

October 7 - Happy birthday! Hope you can do your favorite things. I probably wouldn't have taken a picture of our first loving his blankee, but you were # four. Mean Mother washed the blankee! Note the life jacket drying on the clothesline pole. It was used when you were at the pool. You weren't a bit afraid of the water and would jump right in. The only safe way to visit the pool was with the jacket on you. (This was taken the summer before your 2nd birthday.)

JV Lost

Jeff played offense for last night's JV game in Boone. He only carried the ball twice but ran the patterns they want him to get experience on. They try to keep him ready for Varsity defense so don't let him do much JV. They had a few passes way over his head, that if they would have connected he would have been gone! I was chilly, but not a much as Friday. ________________And they are working on getting our new furnace in. Maybe will be working tonight! Ruth is on her way to Iowa!

Lil' Rams Win

Football for Calvin this afternoon. They won 27-0. Here he is center. Pop should be on his way home from the Kansas City races. A little cool without a furnace, but space heater is ok. New furnace to be put in this week. And Ruth called and is coming later in the week! (She wants to beat Iowa's winter!)

Soccer Today

Soccer at noon vs Ogden's other team. I don't know the score, but I think we won by a few. Calvin had a good game. He got moved up to the A team after last week. More of a team game now.

The Game-Men in black

All in all, it was a good game. It just ended at the wrong time when Boone was ahead! With a few minor differences Jefferson would have won: a couple good passes that were missed, a fumble that one of our littlest guys was on the bottom of the pile and got the ball taken from him, penalties that called back good yardage, an interception, and a blocked punt. Our team was the fasted, but their team was the biggest. The black blurr is Jeff on one of his tackles. (#2)

Friday Night Football

It was a cool, damp night. Not a good night for pictures with all the humidity, but sometimes you get interesting results. Abbey ran the flag ahead of the team when they came onto the field. It was homecoming night so the girls wore players jerseys that they had gotten at the jersey auction. The kick is after points are scored. One kick for each point!!! Jefferson lost to Boone 21-28. Disappointing!
