Nothing Scheduled Today

Anyone jealous? We had nothing on the calender that had to be done or where we had to be today. It was good to to get things caught up, like scrapbooks, photo album, rebate sent in, yesterdays wash put away and those little things that get missed. One of the best things about retirement is NO SCHEDULE. Unless of course you want one. I did get up to the Rec Center and exercised and did a bit of housework. And there is dough rising for cinnamon rolls to be formed later!!! Retirement is GREAT!

In Home Communions

Father is gone for 11 days, so I did in-home communions today. It is the best church job I have ever had. I enjoy seeing the people and everyone is so happy to have company and contact with church. Another person did the communion service at the Manor and will again next week at Longterm, so I didn't have to get ready for that. I loaned Marly my book "Final Gifts'. It's my favorite book for anyone that is dealing with the dying. It is written by two hospice nurses about nearing death awareness. After my years in long term care, I could add examples to every chapter. I discovered it after a few of us nurses were comparing notes and thinking "We should write a book". It is well written and covers what we would have wanted to tell.

Gift Shop

Yesterday I worked at the Hospital Auxiliary gift shop. It wasn't my regular day, but I was filling in for vacationers. (Ones that headed to warmer places) It was a slow day. Few customers. The chip price and bag size went up recently and we sold none. In the past we would sell 3-4 bags per day, at the least. Cappicino sold well, probably due to the cold weather. But our best customers are employees, so can't blame the weather for that. We had good sales before Christmas and in a couple weeks people will be getting ready for Valentine's Day and gifts will pick up again. I kept busy though, arranging and rotating candy and snack items. We were lucky and had nothing subject to the peanut butter recall.

Shirt

First Calvin had this shirt on at the game the other night........ then next thing...Jeff was wearing it. I'm sure there is a story there somewhere. I'm guessing by the size that it IS Jeff's shirt. Also note Calvin's shoestrings in the pictures from Friday night's game. Must be what cool 4th graders wear.

Sunday a.m.

This morning we were greeted with some new snow. It was above zero, so that helped. It was a good day to catchup on inside tasks.

Friday Night Fun

At halftime of the girls game the mini cheerleaders showed what they had learned. Wrestling as well as basketball. Abbey was a helper. _______________________________________
Calvin and friends have taken on the job of bringing out the practice basketballs when the boys team warms up before the game and at half time. __________________________________________________________________________ They were on the move in the 3rd photo taking the balls back. ____________________________________________________________________________ At halftime of the boys game the Home State bank had the 11 and under kids shoot free throws. They were to get t-shirts if they made the shot. By the time it was Calvin's turn he had figured out everyone was getting a t-shirt and he just let the ball fly and went over to get his shirt..... Then hurried over to get the practice balls out.

Busy Spectators

Another game tonight!! How many games has Calvin attended? (And track meets and music programs and etc) He is a sport minded fellow and has been on teams of his own, with more to come. With three active, older siblings he has always been involved following their activities. Plus he is a student of sports and watches games closely. It will be fun watching him grow up and follow his games too.

Last Home Wrestling Meet

Yesterday was a great day. Good weather, faith sharing in the morning, haircut at noon and wrestling meet at night. It was parents night. Abbey was about ready to get out onto the mat and help Aaron in this picture. She was really leaning that direction!

Basketball Monday

My camera was handy, but no Cal there tonight being ball boy to take his picture. So I took these pictures of other things. My usual spot in the gym without flash.

Retry: Our quiet weekend

If this is on twice it is because last night's didn't show up. My first post didn't show up until the second post, so I don't quite trust rewrites. Anyway we were tired of cold and snow and the temp was good, so we headed out to a retirement open house in Rockwell City. (Leonard Moran-he ask about you Matt) And then down to visit Gerald. (So your card got delivered J.) Lots of snow between here and there. We enjoyed our day. T called that they were home and a good weekend of volleyball and visiting. D had spent the day snowmobiling about 150 miles!

Plenty of snow

These pictures are especially for our NC relatives!!! We are now at 10 more inches of snow than our year total average.

Home Show

This evening we went down to the home show. Missed going to the basketball games and the girls and boys both won.

Kept busy today

It has been beastly cold outside. - 19 when we got up this am. Nice and warm inside! I postponed going out to give in home Communions until tomorrow, as should be a little warmer. All were very accepting. Two of us had been assigned to the Communion service at the Manor, so didn't have that to do. So I went out and checked vending machines at the Hospital and found out the Churdan people had skipped coming down to go there. If I would have just known sooner........... Anyway I did the washing and made party mix and didn't go out again!

Any Aging Noted?

We received this in the mail from Kriegers yesterday. It was taken in January 1981. We haven't changed much, have we?

support

One of the things that sticks in my mind today was a long talk with Judy. (Good friend who's 45 year old son has terminal brain cancer) She and Russ had spent yesterday with him while his wife worked. He is almost completely blind and requires help with everything. Still has a good appetite and pain under control with meds. (But some side effects and other problems that are expected) Judy and I worked together in Long Term Care and dealt with death and dying lots and agree with each other's beliefs on those sort of things. About the only thing you can do now is be there and listen and be supportive. He was able to work until just before Christmas. His goal has been to attend his son's wrestling meets, but that is getting harder and harder. He has his plans made and says he is ready. Hospice has become involved and has been great. Time will tell......................Remember them in your prayers

Blizzard Advisory

We had more snow this morning and than a pretty decent day, until the wind came up and some more new snow. Travel is not advised and school is already 2 hours late for tomorrow. I made soup for supper and we are set to stay in with TV and a book and the crackling candle.

This is a Start

This is a start. If my daughter and daughter in law can do this, maybe I can too. We'll see how it goes. Now I have to get back to listening to a boys BB game. Our girls just lost! Bummer!
What a start. My first post didn't show up. Tonight I'm listening to BB games on the radio since they are out of town. It is half time. Girls lost. Boys are ahead by 2.
