Ankeny Swimmeet
Today Pop, Ruth and I headed for Ankeny for a swimmeet at the Y. Joan, Jill and Sadie came from CR for the girls to swim at the meet. We watched both of them in a couple events each. First picture - Jill freestyle. Second picture - Sadie freestyle, and third picture - Jill butterfly. And of course the fans! (And a good visit!)-------------------------- After we got back home Ruth went out to visit Mom and then up to see Jerry and Mary Jane. They were babysitting, so she would get to see the kids too. She then got up to see Paul and Kris too, to complete her brief trip.
Mini Cheerleading
Last night was Pink Out night. T-shirts were sold to support breast cancer research. It was also mini cheerleading night. Abbey loves working with the little girls, and loves cheering. I hadn't paid much attention to the words of the wrestling cheers. I loved the one, "Hey Mr. Referee, give us a victory!" I listened to the rest of the games on the radio, as Ruth arrived soon after the performance. We enjoyed celebrating her birthday. Katelin Fields (Pat and Michelle) is the little dark headed girl at the start of the first row. Vicki Weant Lautner's granddaughter is behind Katelin, in the second row.

Melting Today with Some Rain
The weather and forecast are the prime topics around here. We finally have melting with rain yesterday, last night and today. It was great to see the ice off the trees and wires this morning. There has been lots of tree damage. Pop raked. I don't think we have raked yard in January before. The twigs are all over. We drove over to Carroll today and they had it worse. It was tops of trees there, whereas it was branches here. They had more and longer power outages too. We enjoyed a visit with Mara and her babysitters, Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Dan. Jenni and T are off celebrating T's 30th birthday. (Notice Mara's little Uggs!)

Warm Place on a Cool Evening
An indoor swim meet in the middle of winter can be almost like a sauna, but it was enjoyable. The three boys from Jefferson that are taking part on the Boone swim team are doing well. There was better light for pictures at the Carroll pool last night, so I have a bunch. They wanted some for yearbook. Now they will have choices to make. I got some of everyone. Pop even went along!

5th Grade Basketball Tournament
This morning Calvin's team played in Ogden. They lost the first game to Nevada. Than they beat Boone in a very close game. They had a games rest and than won over East Greene. Calvin broke his glasses during the second game. Lens and screw fell out, but didn't break. Logan's Grandma, that works at an eye care place, was there and fixed them. So Gretchen was the hero of the day! He put them on and headed out to play, but soon had them back to get his Dad to clean them. With all the fingerprints, he said it looked like each team had 10 players.

Caught Up
Tuesday was the day I packed up the 90 nativities I had out this year and got them put away in the closet. (Except this year there is a small box with some in the basement also.) Yesterday I worked at the Auxiliary Gift Shop. They have a big sale on Christmas things and I DIDN'T add to my nativity collection! Today I did get up to the rec center and exercise, plus did washing and did get back out to the hospital and took down Mother's Christmas decorations and got out her snowman. It is slick and drifting around town and I imagine the country is impassable. There was no school or activities today and possible not tomorrow.

95 Years Old Today
Paul and Kris came when I was out to wish Grandma Phoebe a Happy Birthday. She was eating, so we visited awhile and I filled machines, before going back up to her room. They had just gotten home yesterday and had a good visit with Marie and family. Kris and Paul got her the throw that she has on her lap. And the knitting project is the baby blanket she is working on now. The flowers are from Marg and Marie & Alan. COLD in Iowa today!
