Nothing Scheduled Today
Anyone jealous? We had nothing on the calender that had to be done or where we had to be today. It was good to to get things caught up, like scrapbooks, photo album, rebate sent in, yesterdays wash put away and those little things that get missed. One of the best things about retirement is NO SCHEDULE. Unless of course you want one. I did get up to the Rec Center and exercised and did a bit of housework. And there is dough rising for cinnamon rolls to be formed later!!! Retirement is GREAT!

In Home Communions
Father is gone for 11 days, so I did in-home communions today. It is the best church job I have ever had. I enjoy seeing the people and everyone is so happy to have company and contact with church. Another person did the communion service at the Manor and will again next week at Longterm, so I didn't have to get ready for that.
I loaned Marly my book "Final Gifts'. It's my favorite book for anyone that is dealing with the dying. It is written by two hospice nurses about nearing death awareness. After my years in long term care, I could add examples to every chapter. I discovered it after a few of us nurses were comparing notes and thinking "We should write a book". It is well written and covers what we would have wanted to tell.

Retry: Our quiet weekend
If this is on twice it is because last night's didn't show up. My first post didn't show up until the second post, so I don't quite trust rewrites. Anyway we were tired of cold and snow and the temp was good, so we headed out to a retirement open house in Rockwell City. (Leonard Moran-he ask about you Matt) And then down to visit Gerald. (So your card got delivered J.) Lots of snow between here and there. We enjoyed our day. T called that they were home and a good weekend of volleyball and visiting. D had spent the day snowmobiling about 150 miles!

support
One of the things that sticks in my mind today was a long talk with Judy. (Good friend who's 45 year old son has terminal brain cancer) She and Russ had spent yesterday with him while his wife worked. He is almost completely blind and requires help with everything. Still has a good appetite and pain under control with meds. (But some side effects and other problems that are expected)
Judy and I worked together in Long Term Care and dealt with death and dying lots and agree with each other's beliefs on those sort of things. About the only thing you can do now is be there and listen and be supportive.
He was able to work until just before Christmas. His goal has been to attend his son's wrestling meets, but that is getting harder and harder. He has his plans made and says he is ready. Hospice has become involved and has been great. Time will tell......................Remember them in your prayers

This is a Start
This is a start. If my daughter and daughter in law can do this, maybe I can too. We'll see how it goes. Now I have to get back to listening to a boys BB game. Our girls just lost! Bummer!
